Armagh Methodist

Abbey Street, Armagh BT61 7DX

We have a small congregation but manage to fit in lots of activities for members and for our community. We hold worship on a Sunday morning, followed by tea and coffee in the hall beside the church. A time for praise and for conversation and friendship. There is a small Sunday School that meets during the worship. Children are encouraged to contribute to the life of our church and we welcome them to be part of everything.

Mission

The church's mission is to live faithfully, care for the community, and support our brothers and sisters in Christ in the city and surrounding countryside.

Sunday services each week provide us with an opportunity to learn more of the Gospel and to meet together in fellowship.

History

John Wesley first visited Armagh on Wednesday 15 April 1767 due to the determination of Eleanor Russell who had been converted under Wesley in Athlone before coming to live in Armagh (about 1755). Wesley preached in Armagh on the site of the current church which was then McGeough's Avenue in Abbey Street. Wesley visited Armagh a further 8 times and the small group of believers grew in strength and numbers.

The church was built in 1786 on the north side of Abbey Street, on the the site of the home of Mr William McGeough and where Wesley addressed a large gathering on his first visit to Armagh.
